Tangible Memories: instax™ x Aletheia & Phos
Memories deserve to live forever. In a tangible way. Something you can feel, hold, touch. Keep in your wallet or stick on the fridge. Use as a bookmark. Wear around your neck. A constant reminder of a moment, feeling or person you cherish.
instax™ recently partnered with Aletheia & Phos, who took two instax mini 99™ cameras on a trip to Greece.
Words by Alicia Millan and Laura Roscioli from Aletheia & Phos.
You know that feeling you get when you find a photo album at your parents’ house? Flicking through the pages of your childhood, you remember what you ate on the day they took that photo of you throwing leaves at the park. Or how much fuss you made when they tried to make you wear a jacket three sizes too big. Or the scent of coffee when you walked into your grandparents house. That day, that specific moment, comes flooding back to you in a surge of sensations, so real you can almost touch them.
The thousands of photos clogging up our phone camera roll don’t give us that feeling. The chaos of social media is busy and overstimulating; we lose sight of the real stuff. Of holding something in our hands or wearing it on our bodies and allowing it to make us feel.
We took two instax mini 99™’s on our trip to Greece, and for Aletheia & Phos, it felt like an opportunity to get back to ourselves, authentically capturing moments, in the moment. Carrying our cameras like we did when we were kids and freezing time. A photo reminder to keep forever. That would re-ignite that feeling, the light, the sounds, that ice-cream, those memories, within us again.
One of the beautiful things about the moments we collect is sharing them. Like the jewellery created at Aletheia & Phos, designed to capture your feelings and help you speak them into the world – an instax™ camera captures memories to hold onto forever.
We want to share our captured moments from Greece with you. To show you our memories, and our hearts; and let you inside. You might find a piece of yourself there.
Dinner at the villa
We sat around a table overlooking the coastline of Mykonos, sharing stories, struggles, and dreams.
Morning spot
Everyone had a different morning spot. Reading, journaling, drinking coffee. The rituals that make us unique.
The birthday
It was our first supper. The wind was warm, the sky was pink, a saxophone played in the background, and we sipped on champagne to celebrate.
Looking out
Layers of landscape, rich with history, surrounding us from every direction. Just by looking out, we felt alive.
Romance your friends
My friends bought me a bunch of roses and put them in my room in our shared apartment in Athens. My friends are the love of my life.
Night-cap
It was the best prawn linguine of our lives. We drank wine we’ll never forget. We had a shot of Mastiha with the passionate restaurant-owner. We walked the humming streets of Athens and found friends, roses and nightcap cocktails.
All heart
I wear your heart. It rests beside mine. Wherever I go in the world you’re right there with me.
Locals (for the week)
Don’t you love that feeling when you visit a place you’ve never been before and then you find the spots you love, you get to know the people that work there and you begin to feel like a local? This is our last night in Mykonos with the best baked fish. The staff remembered our names and gave us a table with a view. They flirted with us. Had a shot with us. Offered us cigarettes. Took this photo. Treated us like family.
Heaven
Stretch, swim, eat, sleep, repeat. Having nowhere to be except poolside in the sun, with a plate of fresh vegetables, olive oil and a hunk of fetta, iced-coffee and a group of women who know themselves — is heaven.
BYO bartender
There’s always that one friend who jumps behind the bar and pours the bubbles in their hot pink leopard print bikini. Right?
Romance yourself
Taking time to nurture your heart is an important part of travelling. Having a quiet moment on your own. You can hear your friends talking and laughing downstairs. You feel lucky. A little tired. Full. This is rich.
Melbourne meets Mykonos
In Melbourne we wear black. In Mykonos, people wear the brightest shade of every colour imaginable. It’s the island of clashing prints, bejewelled sandals, strong perfume, dripping gold jewellery. The colours bring us to life from the inside out. Even though we’re wearing black.
Lover’s Cove
We meet down at Lover’s Cove, after a lunch of grilled fish, salad and iced rosè at the taverna. We bask in the Greek sun, lathered in tanning oil, dipping in and out of the crystal clear waters. We bring nothing but towels, books, a beach bag and each other.
Cake of dreams
It was an orange cake with a moist but flakey texture, dripping with syrup-y goodness. There were audible gasps when we took our first mouthfuls. We ordered three more pieces.
The place that held me
It was the end of a trip and the end of something special, with someone special. I cried and cried. I actually sobbed. I cried inside on the couch. I was nude and eating chocolate mousse (so it wasn’t all bad). I cried outside on the deck. I drank a coffee. And cried some more.
It’s been 10 years since you left
A hug that made up for a decade.
Tummy ache
I had to take off my pants because I ate dairy. Of course I did. We were in Mykonos. We turned the music up and danced.
